Taylor Mac, California's sensational and multi talented artist is bringing his signature show to the Moore Theater!
Taylor Mac was born in Laguna Beach (California) in 1973 and is a singer, songwriter, drag queen, producer, director, playwright, and actor. He grew up feeling like an outsider and enjoyed spending time alone. He said in an interview, "I was an artist, I realized, first, and the way that I thought about the world was different than the way other kids or people thought about the world. I was constantly the person that was pointing out something that was just slightly different than everybody else." His performance style is best described as a blend of commedia dell'arte (an early form of professional theatre, originating from Italy, that was popular in Europe from the 16th through the 18th century), contemporary musical theater, drag performance, and he cites American actor, director, and playwright Charles Ludlam, the Theater of the Ridiculous (a theatrical genre that began as an American movement in New York in 1965), and theatrical history reaching back to Greek theater as his main influences. He's received many accolades including a "Genius Grant" from the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, an Obie Award, a Guggenheim Award, and he was was a finalist for the 2017 Pulitzer Prize for Drama.
