Unknown Mortal Orchestra, New Zealand's sensational neo psychedelia artists are bringing their signature sounds to the Moore Theater!
Unknown Mortal Orchestra was formed in 2010 and is composed of Ruban Nielson (guitar and lead vocals), Jake Portrait (bass), Amber Baker (drums), and Quincy McCrary (keyboards). Their musical style is best described as a blend of neo psychedelia (a diverse style of music - originating in the 1970s as an outgrowth of the British post punk scene – that borrowed a variety of elements from 1960s psychedelic music and emphasized the cryptic margins of avant-rock, incorporating evanescent textures over an immutable bassline, producing a heavy metallic ambience), experimental pop (a genre that attempts to push the boundaries of existing pop music by incorporating experimental techniques such as musique concrète, aleatoric music, eclecticism, and electronic production effects), and indie rock (a genre of alternative rock that originated in the United States and the United Kingdom in the 1980s, encapsulating the genres chamber pop, indie pop, lo fi, math rock, neo psychedelia, post punk revival, sadcore, and shoegaze). They’ve had a stellar career with 3 studio albums, 1 extended play, 10 singles, a New Zealand Music Award (for Best Alternative Album), an Australasian Performing Right Association (APRA) Silver Scroll, and a Taite Prize by Independent Music New Zealand.
